FIRST AID:
BURN, SCALD, AND SHOCK
BURN
- caused by exposure to dry heat
- can also be produced by radiation,
including the sun’s rays.
SCALD
- scalds
are caused by exposure to wet heat
- example : hot liquid , vapour
BURN & SCALD TREATMENT
(severe burn)
Start cooling the burn immediately under running water for at least 10 minutes |
Call 999 ambulance |
Make
the victim as comfortable as possible.
Continue
to pour cold water
over the burn for at least ten minutes or until the pain is relieved
Cover
the burn with clean, non-fluffy material to protect from infection. Cloth, a
clean plastic bag or kitchen film all make good dressings

TREATMENT
(minor burn)
Apply cold water to the burn area for at least 10 minutes, until the pain relieved. If a minor burn/scald is larger than the palm and fingers of the victim’s hand, it requires medical attention. |

Shock
is a life threatening condition that occurs when the vital organs, such as the
brain and heart are lack
of oxygen due to a problem
affecting the circulatory system
SHOCK TREATMENT
- Pale face, cold skin, fast breathing, weak/rapid pulse, yawning, unconsciousness.
- Lay the casualty down with their head low and their legs raised and supported.
- Make the patient comfortable - Loosen any tight clothing, comfort, check breathing and pulse frequently.
